$30 Million available for farmers who've paid carbon fees on fuel
Beginning the week of Aug. 26, the Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) will begin issuing an application for partial payment for ag producers or transporters of agricultural products who paid carbon fees related to the state’s cap and trade program on fuel purchases. Qualifying purchases are between January 1, 2023 - December 31, 2023. This email contains valuable links below to help guide you through this process!
Applications can be submitted on September 1, 2024 and funds will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
Why is this important for agriculture?
Agriculture was exempt from these fees under the Climate Commitment Act. Washington Farm Bureau needs ag producers and transporters to submit this important fuel information as the data collected will be important for any future legislative advocacy! Please share these resources and encourage anyone in the agricultural community who qualifies to apply!
What qualifies for this program?
- Retail fuel purchases
- Bulk tank loads
- Special fuels like natural gas and propane
DOL circulated a letter recently containing the following information:
What Is the Agriculture Support Program (ASP)?
The ASP is a funding opportunity for agricultural producers and transporters who have purchased fuel between Jan. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2023. The state’s Climate Commitment Act exempts fuels used for agricultural purposes, such as diesel for tractors and trucks moving produce. Agriculture fuel users who qualify for this exemption can apply for payments between $600 to $4,500.
When Will This Take Place?
The Department of Licensing will begin issuing ASP payments in September 2024. The application will be available in the week of Aug. 26, 2024. Don’t delay. Due to limited resources, applications will be processed in the order they arrive.
