Will O’Donnell has been named as the new Executive Director for the Washington State Farmers Market Association.
O’Donnell is a previous WSFMA Treasurer and board member, and he said when he was running a market in Jefferson County, the organization helped him and he wants to continue that work.
“I want to be able to help with whatever level they’re at. I want everybody to be the best that they can be on their own terms.”
O’Donnell envisions Farmers Market Association as a nexus for all farmers markets around the state to connect with each other, find resources, ideas and other ways to improve.
Part of that work will be how to bring in more customers and showcasing that farmers markets are for more than just a high culture or foodie audience.
O’Donnell said, “We are getting more and more people of more income levels coming to the market, having a good experience and taking home more produce than ever before. We want to continue that work and just continue the accessibility of farmers markets in making sure people can get access to the best quality produce they can.”
O’Donnell said it might seem like farmers markets are more expensive but with assistance like SNAP or WIC, plus the high quality of the food, it can actually be a better value than going to the grocery store.
